I started my journey driving from my parents house in Rockwell, Ia to my grandma's house in Charles City. She wanted to go drive around northeast Iowa so I decieded I would want to go with her. I haven't been on a drive around northeast Iowa in a long time and with grandma in a very long time. We started in Charles City and took off towards New Hampton. After we stopped and ate breakfast at McDonald's, we headed south down old U.S. Highway 63, then turned left towards the little village of Boyd. Eventually, we hooked up with U.S. 18 again and drove towards West Union. The couple stop lights in town slowed us down but we picked up speed down the road again. We buzzed through the brick city of Clermont. There are many beautiful buildings, the first governor's mansion and a museum at the top of the hill on the east end of town.

After the scenic view in Clermont, we passed through Postville and onto Monona. There is a Frank Lloyd Wright house located in town but I'm not sure of the exact
location. Passing Monona, we turned onto a county road toward the tiny town of Farmersburg. There isn't much here but it's a nice small community.
We went east out of Farmersburg and turned north onto State Hwy 13, then onto U.S. Hwy 52 and east on U.S. Hwy 18, again. After a little while, we turned off of Hwy 18 and turned right onto the old Hwy 18. It was a beautiful drive along the old highway and all downhill. We ended up going through downtown McGregor. If you have the chance, spend sometime here. The buildings are all fixed up to the time period they were built. Also, the Wringling Brothers Museum house is located here.
North of McGregor the small river town of Marquette. It is one of the first towns built in Iowa. Pioneers used ferries to cross the river from Prairie Du Chien, Wi. An overlook point is located at the top of the hill in Marquette. A casino is located south of the buisness district.
We crossed the Mississppi River into Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. There are quite a few old historic buildings in PDC along with a low-security prision. After another stop to eat a late dinner, we were off again, driving
north along State Hwy 35. The road pinned us along the beautiful hills and the
Mississppi River. We drove through Lynxville and Ferryville before we turned left onto State Hwy 9 and back into Iowa.

We followed Hwy 9 through Lansing, Waukon and pass Decorah. Decorah is another beautiful, restored town. They have the BEST trout fishing in the state and wicked mountain bike trails. There are many overlooks around Decorah including
Palisades Park, Pulpit Rock and Phelps Park. Pulipit Rock Campground is located near U.S. Hwy 52 and Luther College is also located nearby. If you have some free time, you will not regret spending it here.We turned south on U.S. Hwy 52 and went through Calmer. Then we turned right and headed towards Fort Atkinson. Like it's name, there is a fort located on the top of the hill overlooking the town. Worth a visit.
After Fort Atkinson, we drove through Jackson Junction, Lawler and New Hampton. After we stopped at the stop lights in New Hampton, we ended our jouney by driving back to Charles City.
